A Stone of Hope at 1964 Independence Avenue

The MLK Memorial in Washington, DC covers four acres and includes an incredible granite statue known as the “Stone of Hope.”

The inspiration for the design comes from a line in MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech when he said, “Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope.”

“Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope.”
