Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park

Hogdenville, Kentucky

The Park preserves a single-room farmhouse where Lincoln was born and spent his childhood. His early life on Kentucky’s frontier shaped Lincoln’s character and prepared him to lead the nation through the Civil War. Lincoln was named for his grandfather, who was killed by Native-Americans in May 1786. The future president’s father, Thomas, was saved from harm by his brother, Mordecai. Every September, interpreters and living history presenters in period clothing tell the story of Abraham Lincoln’s journey from a small child on the Kentucky frontier to the White House.
