Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum

The museum shows the humble beginnings of the famous female pioneer and aviator. Earhart was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean in 1932, receiving the United States Distinguished Flying Cross. Earhart, born in 1897, was a role model for women. She set many flying records, wrote multiple best-sellers and helped form The Ninety-Nines, an organization for female pilots. Earhart’s house has been restored to its condition at the time of her birth, with period furniture and personal and family memorabilia. She disappeared during an attempted circumnavigational flight of the world in 1937 and was presumed dead.
