Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum

Franklin D. Roosevelt was U.S. president from 1933-1945, during the Great Depression and World War II. He created the idea of a presidential library to house and preserve documents from his presidency, from official papers to letters from constituents. It hosts over 800,000 pages of archival documents, including significant speeches like his “date that will live in infamy” reaction to the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. The library and museum also features 2,500 historical photographs and numerous artifacts such as Roosevelt’s wheelchair and model ships. FDR’s library, built with private funds, was the first of its kind and became the blueprint for future presidential libraries.
