Gerald R. Ford, U.S. president from 1974-1977, completed the term of Richard Nixon, who resigned. Through compromise, bills involving energy decontrol, tax cuts, deregulation of the railroad and securities industries, and antitrust law reform were approved during his presidency. In foreign policy, Ford continued the policy of detente with the Soviet Union and “shuttle diplomacy” in the Middle East. Archival holdings at the Ford library include approximately 25 million pages of documents, 450,000 photographs, 3,000 hours of audiotape, 3,500 hours of videotape and 712,027 feet of film. The textual holdings include memos, letters, meeting notes, reports and other historical documents.
