Jimmy Carter, U.S. president from 1977-1981, addressed the energy problem in the U.S. and championed human rights globally. Foreign policy accomplishments of his administration included the Panama Canal treaties, the Camp David Accords, the treaty of peace between Egypt and Israel, the SALT II treaty with the Soviet Union and establishing U.S. diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China. The archives is a repository of approximately 27 million pages of Carter’s White House material and papers of administration associates, including documents, memoranda and correspondence. There are also 1/2 million photographs and hundreds of hours film, audio and video tape.
