National Civil Rights Museum

Memphis, TN

The museum is the site of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination. Originally the Lorraine Motel, it features exhibits on the movement for racial equality and the life of the civil rights leader. Interactive exhibits, historic collections, and special events focus on a tumultuous and inspiring period of change. It features 260 artifacts, over 40 films, oral histories and exhibits that guide visitors from the beginning of the resistance, through the Civil War and Reconstruction, to the rise of Jim Crow and the seminal events of the late 20th century that inspired people to stand up for equality. Exhibits depict, among other events, Rosa Parks refusing to give up her seat on a bus.
